17 ways you can change your mindset

The Mindset: In layman’s terms, is the accumulation of all your beliefs and thoughts you gathered over a lifetime that affect how you behave.

We all have one of two mindsets.

  • We either believe we are born with certain abilities and these abilities cannot be changed: FIXED MINDSET
  • Or we believe that with hard work and persistence we can develop our abilities, learn new talents and continually better ourselves: GROWTH MINDSET

It is the growth mindset that is the key to our success. When we believe that we can control our abilities and improve our lives, then we are onto a winner.

Below are 17 ways that will help you cultivate a growth mindset and get you winning at life.

1. Change you self-talk

When you start changing how you talk to yourself you will start to notice a difference in the way you feel about you and the world around you. Start noticing your internal talk and choose positive conversations with yourself. For example: “Why are you so fat” can be changed to “I love that you are eating healthier and getting into better shape each day” BIG difference, yes?

2. Act as if

By acting as if you are living your perfect life and have the body/relationship/business of your dreams, you are re-wiring your brain. Your brain doesn’t know the difference between what you DON’T want and what you DO want. For example: You constantly say ” I DON’T want to be in debt” your brain hears ” WANT and DEBT” So guess what? It will give you more “DEBT”. So try saying “I have enough money to live my perfect life” and see what happens.

3. Read books that will feed your mind positivity and strategies to make your life better

4. Surround yourself with positive people

There is nothing worse than being in a room full of negative people. The atmosphere seems to sink right into your soul. be around people who bring sunshine to your life, make you happy and lift your spirits.

5. Create new habits

It has been said that it takes 30 days to create a new habit that sticks. Create a morning routine that is positive and will set you up for the rest of the day. SEE TIP 15. Getting into the habit of tracking all your successes, journaling, getting up early, going to bed a little earlier than usual, switching off the television more and taking a break from social media now and then.

6. Step out of your comfort zone

Try new things, learn new skills, travel to new places, meet new friends. Challenge yourself so that your life has variety and doesn’t become mundane and boring.

7. Learn to meditate

Meditation is great for relaxing, grounding yourself and quieting the noise in your head. I am still trying to master this but I am giving it a go and that is the main thing.

8. Make personal development and important “Must Have” in your life like breathing.

9. Show gratitude often

10. Create an I am journal

I am journaling is similar to gratitude journaling but you are writing all your goals, dreams and desires you want to achieve as if they have already happened. For example if you want to be healthy and fit then you would write in your journal “I am a healthy and fit woman who eats a healthy balanced diet each day and runs along the beach every morning” just keep writing about what comes to mind as a healthy fit woman, remembering to use the present tense.

11. Consume positive media

Be aware of what you are reading on and off social media. Turn of the television instead of hearing the news in the background. Limit the amount of negative stories, news, conversations and content you watch and read.

12. Volunteer for a cause

Find a cause that you are passionate about. For example “Homelessness” and offer to volunteer. In the case of homelessness you could help out in a soup kitchen and feed the homeless in your neighbourhood.

13. Adopt a healthy lifestyle

  • Eat a healthy diet
  • exercise regularly
  • consume less alcohol etc

14. Send thank you notes

If someone deserves a thank you, take the time to send them a note or a card to let them know how grateful you are. It could also be a quick text message or an email. Either way it not only helps the other person feel good about themselves but you too.

15. Create a miracle morning

At the end of the day write down all your wins in a journal.

17. Try a new hobby

Trying new things will push you out of your comfort zone and also make you feel good when you master new things.

You don’t have to master everything on this list but well done to you if you do. Even if you use a couple then it will definitely make a big difference in your life.

  1. Long list but a good one. Gratitude is simply the key. Unfortunately, people want more these days. More of everything, which is good, only they don’t realize the importance of what they have.
