Practising self-care: using printables

This pandemic has impacted on our lives like never before. It has been a tough seven months and it feels like we are no closer to getting back to normal. For me it has felt like travel sickness with all the bumps, hurdles and uncertainty of where the world was heading.

Practising self-care has been my sickness pill and the more I practise it, the sickness (anxiety) is being squashed.

I have always loved journals and planners, so I thought it would be a great idea to create my own self-care planner.

Every morning before I go into my office or even think of work, I sit down with my planner and a coffee and work through it.

Here’s what I do:

1/ I fill out my weekly self-care page

I do this, so I know at a glance all the nice things I am going to do for myself

2/ I add to my bucket list

Even though we can’t do much outside the home at the moment, I still look forward to all the things I want to do in the future. The first thing on my list is to have a girls night out and another is to spend a weekend away in a bustling city.

3/ I add to my business bucket list

This like a big brain dump of all the things I want to happen in my business. If I didn’t do this it would be a huge distraction. Think minions jumping up and down in your head wanting your attention.

4/ I write down three things I am grateful for

Showing gratitude is so important when things feel like they are spinning out of control. Being grateful reminds us of the small things that we take for granted every day.

5/ I keep a reminder of my morning routine

Having a morning routine gives us that stability we all need. Just this one thing has helped so much. I don’t feel as if my life is out of control when I stick to a simple routine.

6/ I write down my goals for the week

Like they say, “a goal is just a wish until you write it down.” Writing my goals down gives me the incentive to follow through and actually take the necessary steps to make them happen.

7/ I write down all the books I have read

Having a list of books that I have read reminds me so I don’t repurchase it at a later date. Trust me, this has happened so many times. So annoying.

8/ I write down the books I want to read

If I come across a book that looks interesting, I write it down so I don’t forget about it. This list is huge so it is going to take a long time to work my way through it.

9/ I write down my favourite affirmations

If I can’t think of any then I just read the ones I have out loud.

10/ I write down random thoughts

It doesn’t matter what it is. It could be something that is niggling at the back of my mind. Whatever it is, getting it onto the page stops me from dwelling on it.

11/ I read my ideal day

Once I have written out my ideal day, I read it every morning to make it more real in my minds eye.
